Help Us To Help Others. The safe evacuation of mobility impaired people is often lost within fire safety, health and safety, equality requirements and mixed messages from regulators, enforcing authorities and so-called experts.
With so much focus on accessibility and equality for fear of discrimination and bad publicity, lives are being put at risk including the safety of firefighters because of tick box compliance and a lack of understanding of current requirements.
We are guessing you would not expect to go into a commercial building and find there are no fire extinguishers or a fire alarm, so why is it there are so many buildings that provide access for everyone but do not have provisions to get them out ?
We would like anyone reading this, especially those in a building with a lift to find out how mobility impaired persons are evacuated. Remember it is not just users of wheelchairs but also the elderly, injured or pregnant women who may not be able to use the stairs in the event of an emergency and when lifts can not be used.
It is not whistle blowing or being a jobsworth, it is raising awareness to improve life safety and assist responsible persons and duty holders to be compliant.
If you need assistance, we are here to help and provide a free evacuation consultancy service.
Don’t forget if you need certificated training in the use of evacuation equipment we provide free servicing, subject to T&Cs !
