It is essential that Responsible Persons and Duty Holders take ownership and are educated to have a clear understanding of current requirements, roles and responsibilities so they are empowered to question and challenge when appropriate.
Not all parts of the fire industry help as recent events show and sadly society can be re-active rather than pro-active and it can take incidents and media coverage to assist with influencing change and improving standards.
For all buildings there must be a clear understanding of the building fire strategy, fire risk assessment, emergency procedures, PEEPs/GEEPs and knowing the difference between legislative requirements, guidance or simply verbal recommendations !
In the Care Sector it can be often assumed that suitable and sufficient provisions are in place when they may not be, whatever type of building you are in, if you are unsure of the emergency procedures and alternative escape routes ask and find out.
