Responsible persons and duty holders must be aware that anyone permitted into their building must be evacuated without depending on the Fire Service in the event of an emergency and when lifts can not be used.
This includes mobility impaired persons therefore appropriate evacuation equipment such as evacuation chairs and sledges must also be in place.
In addition to the equipment, initial and ongoing training is also a requirement.
Regularly practicing with the equipment should also be carried out including during fire drills to ensure procedures are effective and improvements can be made if there are any useful lessons learnt or issues to address.
A training session is very different to using equipment when the fire alarm is sounding, if you are unsure if appropriate provisions are in your premises contact us to arrange a compliance audit and survey to ensure you are meeting statutory obligations.
